Why Become A Freemason?

   Have you ever had the experience of being in a close circle of friends? Friends who were more than passing acquaintances who you could trust implicitly? Perhaps you have had the experience of being on a team that really worked well together. Perhaps you are a veteran, and miss the camaraderie and brotherhood you found in service. Perhaps you consider yourself to be a good man but are now seeking ways to be better. Are you interested in being of service to your community beyond what you can do yourself? Maybe you are interested in fraternal organizations like the Shriners or other fraternal groups that require you to be a Freemason to join. If you are reading this you must have some interest. Perhaps you are ready to take the next steps.

Who Can Become A Freemason?

   Here is a checklist of qualifications:

  • You must be male and at least eighteen years old.

  • You must believe in the existence of a Supreme Being.

  • You must be of good moral character and able to pass a thorough background check.

  • Your reasons for joining must be unrelated to personal gain or profit.

  • Your motivation for joining must be prompted by having a favorable opinion of Freemasonry.

  • You must desire to earn knowledge.

  • You must be willing to conform to the ancient usages and customs of the fraternity.

   This may seem like a challenging list; but most interested men of good standing who have a sincere desire to join will qualify.

How Do I Become a Freemason?

   It is up to you to take the next step. While it is possible a Pennsylvania Freemason could invite you to join you don't have to wait.

  • If you know someone you believe to be Freemason you can ask them about membership. They will be happy to answer any questions you may have and provide you with an application form.

  • You can contact Lowther Manor Lodge directly using the contact information below. Email is preferred and will be answered promptly.

  • You can can visit the Pennsylvania Grand Lodge website and fill out a membership inquiry form by clicking HERE.

   The process to join takes at least two months, although there can be exceptions in special cases. You can expect to pay an initiation fee which may include your first year's membership dues. In Pennsylvania initiation fees average $300, and annual dues average $100. These are currently the fee and dues for Lowther Manor Lodge.
